Why?

The Adorn Ballet Story

Over the past decade, many professional dancers have bravely spoken out about toxic work environments and unfair treatment in the ballet world. While these conversations are necessary for progress, they can feel discouraging to those who dream of a career in ballet. Popular films and TV shows often amplify this image, portraying body dysmorphia, exploitation, and unhealthy behaviors—not only as reality, but as glamorous drama. This risks normalizing harmful ideas for young dancers while deterring newcomers who might otherwise find joy in ballet.

I’ve always loved ballet for its elegance, storytelling, and sense of wonder, but I worried that the public narrative no longer reflected the beauty I knew. When I began teaching adult beginners, I made it my mission to share ballet’s joy rather than its pressures. My classes leaned into artistry—flourishes of arms and head, simplified story ballet variations, and end-of-semester “performances” complete with costumes, roses, and cheers. Students found strength, balance, and renewed confidence, reminding me how life-giving ballet can be when practiced in a supportive environment.

That experience reignited my passion for spreading the good in ballet. Watching students celebrate small victories—touching their toes, finding stability, rediscovering playfulness—made me realize how accessible and enriching ballet could be for anyone. Their joy inspired me to think bigger about how to share that magic beyond the studio.

At the same time, I had been experimenting with embroidery, stitching tiny tutus and pointe shoes by hand. I wanted to capture the grandeur of full story ballets, so I invested in an embroidery machine and began creating apparel featuring embroidered ballerinas. My first designs celebrated iconic roles like Cupid, La Esmeralda, Swan Lake, and Nutcracker. When I made a Kitri sweater for a friend starring in Don Quixote, she loved it so much she ordered one for her castmate—a tangible keepsake of their hard work and artistry.

That’s when I realized something was missing in the market. While plenty of ballet-inspired clothing exists, most caters to children or focuses on generic “balletcore” aesthetics. Very few celebrate the rich legacy of story ballets themselves. I founded Adorn Ballet Apparel to fill that gap—offering elegant, story-driven designs that honor the joy, artistry, and tradition of ballet, while embracing the healthier, more uplifting culture we are building for the next generation.

So I decided to found Adorn Ballet Apparel to celebrate the joy of ballet and all the positive experiences it brings. My hope is that dancers of every level can share in its beauty, strength, and artistry. Adorn is designed to serve as a visual reminder of the ballet culture our generation is shaping—one that allows the art form to thrive and continue enriching the lives of everyone who steps into the studio or theatre.

Hi, I'm Andrielle!

I have been a bunhead since the day I was born - my mom was a ballet dancer and teacher so I was introduced very early. I grew up in a small town with not much to offer as far as ballet training goes but I studied as much as I could
